Master 3 Confusing Verbs: CREAR-CREER-CRIAR

Virginia - Spanish Right Away - Crear - Creer - Criar

Be aware that some verbs in Spanish can create confusion.

Crear, Creer, & Criar have similar spelling and it’s easy to mix up their conjugations.
Sometimes their conjugations coincide!

Crear: to create
Creer: to believe
Criar: to raise

Examples of usage of the three verbs,

CREAR

Ellos crean diseños muy originales.
They create very original designs.

Creamos el ambiente perfecto.
We create the perfect atmosphere.

Usted creará confusión con sus palabras.
You will create confusion with your words.

CREER

No creo que sea verdad.
I don’t believe it’s true.

Creyeron en su líder hasta el final.
They believed in their leader until the end.

Usted no me cree.
You don’t believe me.

CRIAR

Criamos gallinas para vender.
We raise chickens to sell.

Criaron a todos sus hijos aquí.
They raised all their children here.

Tú no puedes criar animales en ese lugar.
You cannot raise animals in that place.
